Valladolid Yucatan: one the best jumping off places to the Mayan experience!
The City of Valladolid Yucatan was relocated further inland after being established by the nephew of Francisco de Montejo, the: "Conqueror of the Mayas”.
In 1545, named after the capital of Spain, The City was built atop of the Maya city of Zaci. Zaci was destroyed and materials from the temples were used to build the original town.
The hotels are quite reasonable, clean and comfortable. One night a friend and I arrived on a late bus from Cancun, took in some of the city, and got some sleep. Valladolid would be the perfect place to stay for at least a few more nights.
